ties containing five radio sources within a 7-arcminute diameter circle were chosen from the Sydney University Molonglo Sky Survey (SUMSS) as tracers of high-redshift clusters of galaxies.
Chance alignments of radio sources and low-redshift z<0.5 clusters were removed from the sample by looking for identifications of the radio sources in the SuperCOSMOS R-band survey, and by removing examples of known clusters found in the literature.
60 potential high-redshift clusters remained.
