Is the edge-on galaxy NGC 4762 actually barred?.

WOZNIAK H.

Abstract (from CDS):

Recent results in secular evolution of galaxies show that bars involve into thick structures responsible for the boxy shape of some edge-on galaxies. However, a few galaxies, like NGC 4762, seem to possess thin bar. Our CCD observations suggest that the structure regarded as a bar could be the remnant of a merging with a small satellite while the lens could be a thick disc like those produced in N-body simulations of Quinn et al. (1993). Thus NGC 4762 might not be a barred galaxy
