Linear and non-linear limb-darkening coefficients for LTE model atmospheres.

DIAZ-CORDOVES J., CLARET A. and GIMENEZ A.

Abstract (from CDS):

Linear, quadratic, and square root limb-darkening coefficients have been computed by means of least squares fits to model atmospheres by Kurucz (1991) with the main purpose of facilitating the analysis of light curves of eclipsing binaries.
Result. are compared with previously published values using the same or different models and various fitting procedures. The linear limb-darkening coefficients were found to be quite sensitive to the method adopted for the fit of the model atmosphere. We also found that the best analytical approximation to the actual effect of limb-darkening is highly dependent on the effective temperature. The depth of the convective region defines in fact important changes in the behaviour of the intensity surface distribution and, e.g., for the hotter stars the square root approximation introduced in a previous paper (D iaz-Cordoves & Gimenez 1992) provided the best fit. Integrated limb-darkening coefficients were calculated for the Stroemgren uvby and Johnson's UBV photometric bands for all the models available, and a simple expression for the interpolation of linear limb-darkening values is given together with the corresponding coefficients for the different photometric bands.
