Abstract (from CDS):

This paper presents a study of a dense molecular region, NGC 1333, and the relationship of the embedded infrared sources and young stellar objects to the structure of its molecular core. We use 13CO and C18O J=1->0 and J=2->1 observations, along with those of CS J=2->1 to characterize the structure of the core, calculate densities and masses. We find from our C18O maps that the core consists of a cavity surrounded by a compressed shell of gas. Many of the infrared and outflow sources in NGC 1333 are located in the cavity. The winds from IRAS2, SSV13 and several other sources appear to provide the energy to sweep up the material, expand the cavity and compress the shell. We suggest that sequential star formation is taking place in NGC 1333 with SSV13 initiating this scenario. Several massive (∼20-40M) condensations in the shell are potential sites for the next generation of star formation in NGC 1333.
