Abstract (from CDS):

We propose a test for the presence of C60+ in the interstellar medium. Two near-infrared diffuse interstellar bands (9577 and 9632A), recently discovered, have been attributed to C60+. Its abundance has been deduced from the estimated oscillator strength of the transitions. This ion should also have a vibrational signature in emission, which is calculated on the basis of the partial infrared absorption spectrum of C60+ measured in the laboratory. We predict that ISO should easily detect this fullerene cation at 7.1 and 7.5µm if the DIB identification and the experimental estimates of the electronic oscillator strengths are correct. Anyway, ISO should yield the actual abundance of the ion, or an upper limit.
