X-ray properties of symbiotic stars. II. Systems with colliding winds.

MUERSET U., WOLFF B. and JORDAN S.

Abstract (from CDS):

60% of the known galactic symbiotic stars are sufficiently X-ray bright to be detected in pointed ROSAT PSPC observations. We present observations of 16 symbiotic stars. We encounter three classes of pulse height distibutions: α) supersoft emission from the atmosphere of the hot star, β) emission from an optically thin plasma with a temperature of a few 106K, and γ) even harder emission, as from an accreting neutron star. In the present Paper we analyze the objects of type β in more detail. We find plasma temperatures ranging from 3x106K to 15x106K and luminosities from 2x10–4L to 0.4L.
