Abstract (from CDS):

W. Liller, Vina del Mar, Chile, reports his discovery of a possible nova (mag approximately 8.5) on three Technical Pan films taken with an 80-mm f/1.4 camera lens (+ orange filter) on Sept. 15.110-15.124 UT. A CCD image by Liller taken on Sept. 16.007 yields broadband-V mag 8.13 and the following position: R.A. = 18h02m22s.07 ± 0s.15, Decl. = -25o20'30".4 ± 1".5 (equinox 2000.0); nothing appears at this location to mag 11.5 on two photographs taken on Sept. 11.12. Visual magnitude estimates (some forwarded by T. Kato, University of Kyoto, and E. Waagen, AAVSO): Sept. 16.082, 8.0 (B. King, Duluth, MN); 16.177, 8.1 (C. Puig, Santa Clara, CA); 16.303, 8.0 (J.
