High-energy nonthermal emission from high-field pulsars.

ZHANG L. and JIANG Z.J.

Abstract (from CDS):

We study high-energy radiation properties of high-field (1013-1014 G) pulsars in the framework of the outer-gap model. In this model, charged particles are accelerated inside the outer gap, which depends on the magnetic inclination angle and magnetic geometry. High-energy photons emitted by these relativistic charged particles produce electrons/positrons through magnetic pair production on their way from the outer gap to the neutron star surface, and these pairs produce nonthermal X-rays by synchrotron radiation. Applying this model to high-field pulsars, the characteristic γ-ray energies, nonthermal X-ray luminosity, and γ-ray luminosity are calculated. Furthermore, comparisons of the predicted γ-ray fluxes for these high-field pulsars with the sensitivities of AGILE and GLAST are given. We discuss the possibility that some high-field pulsars with ages of ∼104.9 to ∼105.5 yr might be detected by AGILE.
