Supernova 2008fv in NGC 3147.

NAKANO S., JACQUES C. and PIMENTEL E.

Abstract (from CDS):

S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by Koichi Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata) of an apparent supernova (mag 16.5) on numerous unfiltered 20-s CCD frames (limiting mag 19.0) exposed around Sept. 27.78 UT with a 0.60-m f/5.7 reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 10h16m57s.28 ± 0s.01, Decl. = +73o24'36".4 ± 0".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 16" east and 34" north of the center of the galaxy NGC 3147 Additional magnitudes from Itagaki for 2008fv: 2007 Feb. 2, [19.0; 2008 Sept. 10.80, [18.5; 28.569, 16.1. Nothing is visible at this position on the Digitized Sky Survey. Following posting on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, C. Jacques and E. Pimentel, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, write that an unfiltered 180-s CCD image (limiting mag 18.0) taken on Sept. 28.49 – remotely with a 30-cm f/9.1 reflector at the Gras Observatory near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A. – yields mag 15.6 and position end figures 57s.27, 36".5 for 2008fv, adding that nothing is visible at this position on a Digitized Sky Survey image from 1991 Dec. 6 (limiting red magnitude 19.5). Itagaki also discovered the type-Ib supernova 2006gi in NGC 3147 (cf. IAUC 8751, 8755; CBET 635).
