Supernova 2009md in NGC 3389.

NAKANO S., ITAGAKI K., YUSA T. and KADOTA K.

Abstract (from CDS):

S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by Koichi Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) of an apparent supernova (mag 16.5) on numerous 15-s unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 19.0) exposed on Dec. 4.81 UT using a 0.60-m f/5.7 reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 10:48:26.28, Decl. = +12:32:02.8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 24" west and 3" north of the center of NGC 3389. Nothing is visible at this position on the Digitized Sky Survey and on Itagaki's many past frames (including one from 2001 Mar. 21 with limiting mag 18.5), the most recent frame having been taken on 2009 Nov. 7.72 (limiting mag 18.0). Itagaki's discovery image has is posted at website URL http://k-itagaki.jp/images/psn-3389.jpg. Nakano also reports that T. Yusa (Osaki, Miyagi-ken, Japan) has confirmed the appearance of 2009md on ten co-added 60-s unfiltered CCD frames (limiting mag 18.0) taken remotely using a 0.25-m f/3.4 reflector near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A. on Dec. 5.38, yielding mag 16.7 and position end figures 26s.29, 03".0 for the new object. K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan; also via Nakano) reports that twelve co-added 120-s unfiltered CCD frames (limiting mag 19.2) taken on Dec. 5.73 using a 0.25-m f/5 reflector yields mag 16.8 and position end figures 26s.30, 02".6 for 2009md. The 13th-magnitude supernova 1967C also appeared in NGC 3389.
