Supernovae 2010C and 2010D.

PRIETO J. and KHAN R.

Abstract (from CDS):

J. Prieto, Carnegie Observatories; and R. Khan, Ohio State University, report that optical spectra (range 390-740 nm; resolution 1.4 nm) of 2010C and 2010D (cf. CBET 2119) were obtained with the Hiltner 2.4-m telescope at MDM Observatory on Jan. 12.4 UT. The spectrum of 2010C shows a blue continuum with narrow (FWHM about 900 km/s) hydrogen Balmer lines in emission, as well as several Fe II lines and the N II 654.8-nm line in emission; the spectrum resembles spectra of luminous-blue-variable outbursts, so-called ''supernova impostors" (e.g., SN 1997bs; van Dyk et al. 2000, PASP 112, 1532). The spectrum of 2010D shows a blue continuum with broad Balmer lines characteristic of a young type-II supernova.
