Supernova 2011cc in IC 4612 = PSN J16334944+3915487.


Abstract (from CDS):

A. V. Filippenko and J. M. Silverman, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 340-1000 nm), obtained by A. J. Barth (University of California, Irvine) on May 2 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that PSN J16334944+3915487 = SN 2011cc is a type-IIn supernova. Although the spectrum is somewhat contaminated by host-galaxy light, H-alpha is seen in emission with an unresolved (FWHM about 470 km/s) component (centered at a recession velocity of 9460 km/s), an intermediate (FWHM about 2600 km/s) component, and a broad (FWHM about 13600 km/s) component. Furthermore, strong Ca II triplet emission is seen along with possible broad He I emission and a narrow He I 587.6-nm component (possibly from a He-enhanced circumstellar medium), as well as a relatively blue continuum.
