Invertigating the magnetic field structure around star formation cores.

GREAVES J.S., MURRAY A.G. and HOLLAND W.S.

Abstract (from CDS):

Linear polarization of dust emission has been mapped around the star forming cloud cores W3 IRS5 and ρ Oph SM1, at a wawelength of 800 µm. In the former source the data are consistent with magnetic field lines that converge on the central object, whereas in the latter the field lines appear close to parallel. The results are consistent with a current model of star formation in high-mass and low-mass cores, but the presence of other nearby sources, and an outflow in W3 IRS5, could affect this interpretation.
