Near-infrared observations of new young stellar objects from the IRAS Point Source Catalog.

CARBALLO R. and SAHU M.

Abstract (from CDS):

We present near infrared (JHK) photometry of 10 IRAS sources from the Point Source Catalog with spectral energy distributions consistent with pre-main sequence (PMS) stellar objects and located towards the Lynds (1962) dark clouds L162, L330, L1646, L1647, L1652, L1657 and L1664. Six of the sources are unassociated with previously known members of this evolutionary stage. The presence of near infrared excess, photometric variability and/or association with optical nebulosity supports the interpretation that the ten sources are PMS stars. The bolometric luminosities of the sources are in the range 1.2-83L, corresponding to low to intermediate mass stars (0.5M<M<3M). Our results suggest for the first time that star formation takes place in the dark clouds L330 and L1664.
