Abstract (from CDS):

We present the results of long-slit and integral-field spectroscopy of the R Mon Herbig-Haro jet. The data were obtained with the 6 m telescope. A slightly curved jet of 16" in length is evident in [SII] lines. Maps of radial velocities and electron densities are shown. The difference between radial velocities on the sides of the jet as well as the density distribution can be considered as an indication of presence of the helical shock structure in the jet. This structure, having a DNA-like appearance, abruptly changes direction near the edges, which could account for the observed velocity variations. Radial velocities were determined also for the several knots in the HH 39 group. The kinematics of the system as a whole also suggests the precession of the outflow.
