Super-resolution can increase the angular resolution of images. Reliability and fidelity of photometry play an important role, if super-resolution methods shall be applied to astronomy. The scope of super-resolution is ambiguous depending on the field of research. Therefore, a unified concept of digital super-resolution is derived from considerations of optimal adaptation of detector and optics, in case of seeing-limited observations. Images of the globular cluster Messier 13 are obtained with a 20 cm Cassegrain telescope and DSLR, then processed with a novel super-resolution method. Gain in resolution, photometric range and accuracy of measurements of the variable stars are demonstrated from the color-magnitude diagram obtained.
